Vaughan is a multimedia artist in the truest sense. Her talents extend to painting, sculpture, performance and large scale mural work, all of which she has employed at the Abrams Claghorn Gallery. In 2015, she painted a lovely, large scale mural on the side of our building and in her 2016 show, My Darling, she included sculpture, painting and performance. Her whimsical style and love of natural forms translates to all the mediums she works. Her childlike wonder and ability to see the bliss in life comes through in her artworks and was instilled from her at a young age.
Anna Vaughan’s childhood foster an early love of the natural world. Originally from the Midwest, Vaughan’s creativity was nourished at early age by her mother, who was an art teacher and remains a practicing artist. During summers, Vaughan lived on a farm with her grandparents, where she spent most of her time barefoot and outside. This led to a lasting and intimate connection with nature. This love of nature and encouragement toward creative play and artistic pursuit is the foundation of Anna’s work as an artist.
For Vaughan, working with the human body provides a way for her to explore cultural, historical, and spiritual myths. Her artwork responds to the interplay between natural and manmade environments, and she endeavors to draw out points of connection and diversion between these two worlds. Her work forBody Continuum invite viewers to contemplate some of the profound and simple experiences of living.
