Francis Bliven is a local ceramic artist based in Berkeley. He has been making ceramics for over seven years, the last two of which have been in the Bay Area. He loves working with the wet clay on the wheel and designs most of his pieces to be completed in one sitting with no trimming or alteration after the clay has started to dry, maintaining a fresh, expressive feel. He has always loved the spontaneity and emotional expression possible in wheel-thrown ceramics. Francis’ goal is to create a bridge between fine art principles and the beauty and accessibility of functional wares. All his pieces are one of a kind, wheel-thrown, cone ten, gas reduction, and crafted from fine porcelain.
