John Doyen is an emeritus Professor of Entomology from the University of California. Now a full time artisan, he displays his work in several Northern California galleries. Besides studying tree identification and the working properties of wood, he has written numerous articles for turners on wood identification. Accurate names are noted on the bottom of all his pieces. John’s award winning turnings are made from wood collected in Northern California, both native and non-native species, as well as selected exotic hardwoods. After more than 25 years of woodturning, John is still delighted by the shape, color, grain, and figure of every piece. His work is characterized by pleasing shapes, soft finishes, thin walls, and a small foot, all contributing a delicate grace and elegance.
