“These paintings are a reflection of what nature and the sun can produce. The shadow is an image projected by the sun, an image that is forever changing under the moving sun. Capturing that shadow on canvas is freezing a moment in time. Time marches on, seasons change and different plants fall in and out of bloom. I may observe a shadow for a day or two, waiting for the time that best displays the structure of the plant. Searching for a delicate crisp projection that inspires the painting before that image is distorted by time. I have a passion for painting. The feeling of the brush having contact with the canvas and carving out the stroke. Mixing the colors that nature has chosen for the plant and applying that to the canvas. Exploring this technique has taken me to places I have never imaged.” – Judith T. Irwin
