Fundamentals & Techniques
Explore how artists from the past have used the self portrait as a tool for self discovery and learn techniques to engage representational painting as a meditative vehicle.
Students may come from all different levels, the emphasis is on developing a particular attitude towards the act of painting which is presented in such a way that someone with no experience could follow along.
Overview:
- Introduction : Exploring historical self portraits, placing emphasis on the psychological and social meaning behind self portraits
- Part 1: Materials and Tools; demonstration of techniques, including an overview of creating an imprimatura, color mixing, identifying light mass, shadow mass, and some basic anatomy.
- Part 2: Students will have time and one-on-one attention to create a wet on wet, alla prima self portrait from life.
